MG returns to BTCC

The Octagon is back in the British Touring Car Championship for 2012.

THIS is great news. MG may get more publicity they desperately need, thus (hopefully) getting more sales of the slow selling MG6. With them returning to motorsport is definitely welcomed, as it can raise more awareness of MG by increasing the brand's presence.

MG are no stranger to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), as they previously entered the competition in the XPower ZS. They're back in the new MG6 GT that will compete in the BTCC for the 2012 season.

They will race for the new MG KX Momentum Racing team and the cars are supplied by Triple Eight Race Engineering. They are one the most successful constructors in the history of Touring Car racing. The team's principal sponsors are: Tesco Fuels with their Momentum 99 brand and the KX energy drink.

Joining the team is the BTTC's most successful racing driver, Jason Plato. With 68 wins and also holding the record for poles, podium positions and lap times. Alongside Plato, is the up and coming race driver Andy Neate. Altogether with MG and its principal sponsors, means it's an all-British racing team in the competition.

With Plato being a well-known and respected figure in motorsport and on television presenting Channel 5's motoring show, Fifth Gear. This could bode very well in boosting the publicity and presence of MG it desperately needs.

The MG KX Momentum Racing will debut at Brands Hatch in April this year, when the 2012 BTCC seasons gets under way. Best of luck to Jason, Andy and the racing team and wish them success.
